We saw the first glimpse of Returnal last summer when it was featured as a part of Sony’s Future of Gaming event. This isn’t a knock against it at all; if anything, the deeply atmospheric and weird trailer did an excellent job of raising our hopes for the game.
Returnal is just one of many PS5 games now slated to arrive sometime in 2021, with Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West, Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7, Insomniac Games’ Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and even a new God of War from Sony Santa Monica all on deck.
With the PS5 in short supply of true next-gen games, expectations for Returnal are high.
Update: Returnal has a new release date of April 30, 2021. With that in mind, we have now learned that Returnal, the upcoming sci fi-horror adventure from Resogun veterans Housemarque, is being pushed back to allow for additional polish. “See you in April!”
Game studio Housemarque and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment have come to a decision to push back the release date of upcoming video game Returnal. Today’s delay moves that drop to April 30 to “give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque”, according to SIE. The reason for the delay is for developer Housemarque to have a bit more time polishing it before it hits the market, likely to ensure players do not dive into the game on day one and suffer the same problems they encountered with Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2020.
